Description

The Bougarabou are set of drums from the Jola people from the Casamance a region of Southern Senegal. The can be played one at a time or in sets, with both hand and stick. They have a full, deep, rich sound which can be heard for miles and is effective at all dynamic levels. The popularity of the Bougarabou has spread across West Africa and the world, because of its sonorous deep tone. The thick cow skins produce a mellow tone and the deep long body produces the sonorous bass. In Ghana it is made with cow skin and antelope, the antelope producing more of a sharp tone.
